Database of Alabama Technologies
In 2008, Alabama Launchpad partnered with founders of InvenioIP – a web-based resource developed by the University of Maryland – to launch a new intellectual property database for searching Alabama technologies. This web-based resource provides summaries and contact information for technologies available for commercialization and licensing from academic institutions and federal research facilities. Each summary includes a brief description, potential applications, licensing and patent information. Participating organizations include:
- US Army Aviation & Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center
- Auburn University
- Southern Research Institute
- The University of Alabama
- University of Alabama at Birmingham
- University of Alabama in Huntsville
- University of South Alabama
Prior to 2008, corporations and investors interested in finding Alabama technologies had to go to each organization’s website and search different systems to find technologies. Alabama Launchpad’s web resource provides one-stop shopping to find technologies from participating entities. In addition to the exposure through Alabama Launchpad, Alabama technologies are also listed on the InvenioIP website, which includes technologies from multiple states. Prospects looking for technologies in a specific field are encouraged to register for InvenioIP’s list serve function, which sends automatic updates when new technologies are added to the database.
